It`s halfway through the month of May and the speckled trout and mackerel and pompano are feeding on all the baits were throwing at `em. The trout haven`t let up at all as of this writing May 13th, and I have never caught as many pompano as I have this Spring season. I always bring a hundred or so live shrimp for my folks to use for bait. Along with floating a shrimp under a bobber we`ve used rubber jigs in place of the shrimp. They both work real well over the grassy 4 to 5 ft. flats. Another bait I like to use is a cut up pinfish. There are zillions of `em around the keys now-a-days and are easy to catch. I fillet one side and then slice 2 or 3 strips from that and hook it on and it works like a natural jig. Reflecting the scales off the sun with great wiggle action.

I`ve had to cancel half of my trips lately because of high winds. Once it`s above 15mph it`s not fun. The fish don`t cooperate either. Fishing is real good, right now, and you can count on getting a cooler filled with fresh fish for dinner.
