Cedar Key School Announces New Principal

Cedar Key School Announces New Principal

By Rita Baker

Darby Allen has accepted the position of Principal at Cedar Key School commencing this year (2013-2014).

Mrs. Allen resides in Chiefland, Florida and is the mother of two teenagers. In her spare time she enjoys reading, camping, swimming, kayaking, walking and spending time with her children.

She has served seventeen years in the school system having taught first, second and fourth grade elementary, sixth grade math and science and seventh and eighth grade math, she then moved into administration as Assistant Principal for two years at Bronson Elementary. Mrs. Allen earned her Associates Degree from Santa Fe Community College, Bachelor Degree from St. Leo College and received her Masters Degree from the University of Florida.

Allen stated that she`s always loved to teach children and believes teaching was her `calling`. Though she`ll miss the classroom setting, Mrs. Allen believes on a grander scale as an Administrator she has the opportunity to make positive changes and problem solve. This year for example, Mrs. Allen has implemented AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) which is an elective program that encourages and helps prepare students for college careers.

Enthusiastically, Mrs. Allen said, "I`m excited to be here and dedicated to making this a successful school year. I appreciate the warm welcome I`ve received from the faculty, staff, parents and community of Cedar Key. We`re never perfect but everything can be improved and everyday is an opportunity to make a positive change."

She encourages parental involvement and would like parents to know that her door is always open.
