Cedar Key News: Womens Club Event

The "Little House on the Prairie" (SR 24 in Sumner) was officially dedicated Sunday, March 30th to the service of the Community of Cedar Key. Outgoing president Jan Hendrix cut the ribbon and passed the gavel to Betty Asbury as members and guests looked on.

Inside, the guests were treated to displays of the CKWC projects including "Support Our Troops"and "Project Smile" and an array of food specialties and punch prepared by the ladies of the club. Art work by members was on display as were the 40 years of memories of the club.

The Cedar Key Woman's Club began in 1960 and has been instrumental in bringing Library services, Emergency Medical Services, CK School Scholarships and Food Pantry Services to the community—not counting the other dozen or so "odd jobs.".

"We come from a lot of different corners of the world" says Susan Roquemore, coordinator of the event. "We are members of the Florida Federation of Womens Clubs and the General Federation which is world-wide. " We like to think of ourselves as an international sisterhood.
