The Old Florida Celebration of the Arts is pleased to announce the winner for the OFCA 2013 Festival Design. After a through review process with the pool of 2012 OFCA winners, three finalists were presented to the OFCA Committee - resulting in the selection of SHELL MOUND - a mosaic made from hand-shaped ceramic tile by award winning Mosaic Artist, and Cedar Key resident, Valerie Bretl. Valerie is thrilled and we are all looking forward to incorporating such a heart felt, Cedar Key inspired image for the 2013 festival: April 13 & 14th. SHELL MOUND will be the official image of the festival, featured on posters, t-shirts, postcards, flyers and in the media. "Shell Mound" is an expression of my love for Cedar Key. The islands long history is represented by a Seminole Indian ancestor on the shell mound his people created over centuries of time. His surroundings depict spring wildflowers, tall pines, gorgeous sunsets, migrant birds and rippling gulf waters beyond the sawgrass. I hope my mosaic design conveys the tranquil beauty of Cedar Key and the joy of being in it`s presence." Valerie Bretl. Valerie has graciously donated the 21.5 x 17.15 mosaic to OFCA fundraising. We feel very honored to be working with such an inspired image as the focal point of the 2013 Festival.
