April 15 was Tax Day for some, but it was Victory Day for Sharks on the track at the High School District track and field meet. The Sharks girls team took first place after taking first place in six events, and two of the boys teams won places in the upcoming regional meet.

The girls' team scored 136 points followed by Trenton with 125, Branford with 98, Chiefland with 74, Bell with 56, Bronson with 23 and Lafayette with 21. In individual events, Rita Borelli placed first in the 800 meter run with a time of2:45. Rose Myers took first in the 3200 meter run at 14:51. Kacey Miller was first in the 400 meter race in 69:00. Samantha Beckham was first in the pole vault, clearing the bar at seven feet even. Relay team efforts in the 4 X 400 and 4 X 800 yielded firsts as well. Kacey Miller, Krystal Harvey, Samantha Beckham and Rita Borelli finished first in the 4 X 800. Rita Borelli, Rose Myers, Samantha Beckham and Kacey Miller took first place in the 4 X 400.


Coach Brad Penny gave the above results to Cedar Key News, and added that Adam Webster will advance to the Regional Meet next Thursday in the 400 meter race, and Alex Tuck will compete in the pole vault. The girls' team will go to Orlando for the Regional as a team.
