53 years ago At a special meeting of the Levy County Board of County Commissioners called the 9th day of September 1950, the following Resolution was adopted: WHEREAS, on September 4th, 5th and 6th, 1950 a severe hurricane devastated and laid waste a large part of Levy County, Florida, demolishing homes, wrecking boats and nets of fishermen as well as extensive damage to the highways of said County, and WHEREAS, the people in the affected area are mostly totally destitute as a result of said damaging hurricane, and WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Levy County, Florida, have declared the portion of Levy County, Florida, affected by said hurricane a Disaster Area. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF LEVY COUNTY, FLORIDA, that they urgently request Honorable Fuller Warren, Governor of the State of Florida, to declare that portion of Levy County, Florida, that has been affected by the said hurricane a Disaster Area as contemplated by Section 215.17, Florida Statutes, 1949. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Governor of the State of Florida, communicate with and request aid for said stricken area from the proper Federal Authorities.
