Labor Day Redfish

Labor Day Redfish

Capt. Dan Shannon

Ralph Tipaldi with his beautiful Red

Hey folks, it`s general knowledge that the best time of year to catch redfish around Cedar Key is the month of October, but this year early September saw a lot of those rusty sundown colored fish in the cooler.

I took a party of four out on Labor Day Weekend, starting out with clear skies and incoming water about 3 hours before high tide. I anchored up over some grassy rolling bottom and rigged floats on 4 rods for my guests. I had heard of a few nice trout caught in the area, but thought the water was still too hot for trout.

Normally it is the end of September before the trout and redfish fishing picks up real good. Not so this weekend;redfish were at all my favorite oyster bars. I think all the rain we had before the holiday weekend cooled the water temp down enough the redfish thought it was Autumn.

The last weekend of August the water temp was 91.5 `F. It was 84`F on Labor Day weekend. It should stay at the cooler mark and drop gradually as the Fall season comes on us. Check out the 2-ft mackerel and all the spots on that beautiful redfish.

Fishing is real active right now and will get better as the weather cools. I`m going to target trout and redfish for the next 8 weeks so call me at 352-221-5463 and let me take you on some great fishing. thanks, Capt. Dan....p.s.go to http://www.inshorefloridafishing.com and check out the photos of happy people fishing.
