May Fishing Report

It`s halfway through the month of May and the speckled trout and mackerel and pompano are feeding on all the baits were throwing at `em. The trout haven`t let up at all as of this writing May 13th, and I have never caught as many pompano as I have this Spring season.

I always bring a hundred or so live shrimp for my folks to use for bait. Along with floating a shrimp under a bobber we`ve used rubber jigs in place of the shrimp. They both work real well over the grassy 4 to 5 ft. flats. Another bait I like to use is a cut up pinfish. There are zillions of `em around the keys now-a-days and are easy to catch. I fillet one side and then slice 2 or 3 strips from that and hook it on and it works like a natural jig. Reflecting the scales off the sun with great wiggle action.

One of the pictures is of Mom Stacy and son Carter when the Salmon family went fishing with me last Friday 10th. And the second is Richard with one of his trout he caught last Wed. 8th.

I`ve had to cancel half of my trips lately because of high winds. Once it`s above 15mph it`s not fun. The fish don`t cooperate either. Fishing is real good, right now, and you can count on getting a cooler filled with fresh fish for dinner.
