Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I hope you have a great holiday. And I hope that this holiday season finds you happy and healthy.

As always, as your Sheriff, I find myself trying to think about how law enforcement can be there for everyone here in Levy County. As always, we'll be working and you can call us if you need us.

I hope that when Friday arrives though and everyone heads out for the "biggest day of the shopping", that you'll remember some of the things we've talked about during the year. Unfortunately, with the beginning of the Holiday Season, the beginning of one of our most intensive crime times also begins. We work theft and burglaries at an increased rate. Also, we see more traffic accidents and DUI's. So we'll be focused on trying to stop some of this criminal activity.

I'd like to mention several things, as reminders, that could make you safer during this time. First, when shopping, if at all possible, go with someone. Try not to be alone. Also it isn't a good idea to wear all of your best jewelry. This is an easy target for a quick snatch and grab. Hold on to your purse. And as you leave malls etc. going back to your car make sure you look for anyone standing near your car. It's also a good idea to lock presents in your trunk, out of sight.

When you make your purchases, be aware of others standing around you to eavesdrop or see personal information. Secure those receipts after the transaction.

This may be a lot to remember. It's better to try to remember these things than it is to become a victim. Please take care and have a great Thanksgiving.
