Levy Co. Sheriff`s Office

Hello and welcome to the Sheriff's Corner. I'd like to talk to you this week, about a service you might be interested in. the Florida No Sales Solicitation Calls law directs the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to compile and maintain a "No Sales Solicitation Calls" list for residential subscribers. This is not intended for business numbers and therefore these numbers are not included.

So, what does this mean. The law prohibits those people attempting to sell consumer goods and services by telephone from calling telephone numbers, which appear with the "No Sales Solicitation Calls" list. There are some exceptions or actually exemptions to the law.

Solicitors may still call in response to an expressed request of the person being called. They may call in connection with an existing debt or contract. They can also call any person, at the number, with whom the solicitor has an existing or previous business relationship. Solicitors may call if it is a newspaper in connection with newspaper business. People requesting a contribution or donation may also call.

If you are interested in participating, you should know several other things. First, the list is updated on a quarterly basis. The initial fee is $ 10.00 per number for the first year. The renewal fee is $ 5.00 per number per year. You are notified when it's time to renew your registration. It's important to remember that your check must be received by the date indicated prior to the quarter. There is a schedule to go by. For January thru March they must have your check by November first; for April thru June, by February first; for July thru September, by May first and for October thru December, by August first.

If you're interested you can check the website at http://www.800helpfla.com. I hope this helps. If you have any questions, give us a call. Have a good week.
