Hi and welcome to the Sheriff's Corner. Id' like to use this week's column to catch everyone up with our activities for the past few weeks. But first, I'd like to report that the Fourth of July weekend was fairly quite, Sheriff's Office speaking. The festivities in Williston and Cedar Key were very well done and fun. Everyone I hope, had a great time.

Next, I know everyone is aware that our Director of Law Enforcement has left your Sheriff's Office and is now running for Sheriff. To fill Tommy's vacated position, I've promoted Captain Mike Johnson, Director of Corrections to Major, Director of Law Enforcement. In addition, Lieutenant Mike Sheffield, Chief of Security has been promoted to Captain as Director of Corrections. We also promoted Sergeant Betty Lou Schultz, our Human Resource Officer to Lieutenant and will be our Chief of Security. We have promoted Sergeant Eloise Guyton, a Shift Sergeant to Lieutenant of Chief of Facility Operations. These promotions were needed and have been filled with very deserving and qualified people.

Last week was trial week here in Levy County. We went to trial on a Capital Sexual Battery and were able to get a conviction on all three counts charged. Robert N. Gresham was convicted of two counts of Sexual Battery – victim less than 12 years of age. These two charges have a minimum mandatory life sentence. The third charge was Lewd and Lascivious Molestation – victim under 12 years of age. The State Attorney's Office and our people worked together to bring this case to this successful conclusion.

I hope everyone had a great week. Please take care and be safe.
