This is my daughter, Whitney Edmunds, who has lived in Cedar Key all of her life. She doesn`t get her news in the local papers because she goes to a private school in Gainesville. However, as she is a senior, this was her last FHSAA State Track and Field Finals, so I thought I would submit it. She is quite an accomplished High Jumper. She has qualified for the State Championships for the past four years in a row.

She was the Regional Champion on April 22, in Orlando, with a jump of 5`2" which qualified her to compete at the state level. I am sending a few photos of the state meet at Percy Beard Stadium at the University of Florida on April 29, 2004, which you might choose from. She tied for first place with a girl from Westminster Christian, near Miami, with a jump of 5`2", but received second place in State 1A due to the tie-breaker. Here`s the play-by-play I sent to her relatives:

Out of the top 16 High Jumpers in the state, eight had missed all three tries at 4`10" or less and been put out. Whit made it and was still in. The bar went up to 5", and four more missed their three tries and were out--down to four girls. Whit made 5" in her first try and was still in. The bar went up to 5`2", and two of the four remaining girls missed all three tries. Down to two girls! Whit cleared 5`2", and the girl in green from Miami cleared 5`2"! The bar goes up again, to 5`4"! That`s taller than a lot of folks! All three attempts, both girls missed...almost, but missed. It was a tie! To break the tie, they go through the jump records to see who had most recently missed at that height, and sadly enough, it was Whit...so she placed second. She did great, though, and actually no one in the state out-jumped her this year! The eight points she got for second place helped her team out-score all others, and they won the State Championship for the second year in a row.


I didn`t know if you have room or interest, but she worked hard for this and I thought the community might appreciate it.
