Changes to the Gulf Trail Project

Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor,

I am happy to report that the Gulf Trail Advisory Committee and the residents of Cedar Key came to an agreement Thursday afternoon, September 30th. The committee members banished the words "bike" and "trail" from their dialogue, and, we will have sidewalks. These sidewalks will be no wider than five feet, with a buffer between them and the paved surface of the street, no wider than two feet. They will be narrower where appropriate.

I want to thank Dr. Starnes and the members of the Gulf Trail Advisory Committee, several of whom invested years of their time and effort into this community project. It could not have been easy for them to just let it go. But, that`s what they did. And they did it with grace and good feeling.

Thank you to all the many people who turned out with their support and encouragement, and resources for this effort. My special thanks to K.C. and Eve for their great ideas and limitless energy which really made the difference, and sometimes even made it fun. Lastly, thanks to you, Maureen and Jim, for printing all six pages of my letter.

Now we can all get back to enjoying our island, and each other.

I love living here.

Sincerely,
Kevin Hipe
