Introducing Hilltop Alternative School

Letters to the Editor

Letter from the Principal

Hello – my name is Valerie Boughanem and I would like to welcome you to Hilltop Alternative Schools. Hilltop schools provide all students with quality, competency-based academic or behavioral programs in an alternative learning environment.

Hilltop serves as the Levy County center for alternative learning programs. The campus, located in Bronson, Florida, on Alternative Route 27, provides a variety of technology- assisted learning experiences for students in grades three thru twelve.

The Hilltop Teen Parent Center provides students –who are parents or will be parents –the opportunity to prepare for FCAT testing, complete credits for high school graduation, and to participate in parenting classes.

The Hilltop Alternative School Programs offers students a "last chance" opportunity to continue their education. This program, offered to those students who are expelled from their regular schools, dealing with the juvenile justice system or awaiting ajudification, or those ESE students demonstrating academic or behavioral difficulties at their regular school, provides intensive academic skills instruction and a very structured behavioral management system.

The EAL or Elementary Academy of learning serving third, forth, and fifth grade elementary students, district-wide, offers an intensive skills program in reading, math, and writing. Students qualifying for this program have been retained 1-2 years, and have not qualified for exceptional student education services.

Students benefit from the smaller class size, Compass, Computer-assisted Learning programs, Academy of Math, Kaplan FCAT Advantage, self-paced, individualized classroom instruction, career and peer counseling courses, law education, character education, and self-contained ESE intensive skills instruction.

The faculty, staff, and administration of Hilltop School set high academic and behavioral goals and expectations for all students. Our mission is to assist all students in achieving success, both academic and behavioral. This is done primarily through the use of innovative technology and curricular materials.

Our school motto is: Hilltop-helping individuals learn leadership, tolerance, obedience, and perserverance...The educational team at Hilltop School looks forward to the opportunity to work with you and your child.
