Capt. Dan Needs Our Assistance

Capt. Dan Needs Our Assistance

Letters to the Editor

Dear Friends:

As you might be aware, Capt. Dan Shannon, who writes your fishing news column, was in a motorcycle accident last month. Fortunately it wasn't fatal but he got beat up pretty bad. He has a broken leg and over $30,000 in hospital bills.

The worst part is he will be unable to work and without a living income for several months. Unfortunately the man that pulled out in front of him carried minimum insurance and is unable to be financially responsible. The available settlement will cover only a fraction of just the medical costs.

Capt. Dan worked for many years operating tour boats and fishing vessels out of John's Pass here in Pinellas County. He was very popular here and still has a number of good friends in this area. We have gotten an effort together to try to help him out a little until he can get back on his feet, literally. Several musicians will be doing a benefit concert and a local Realtor and The First Home Bank of Seminole have started a Fund Drive.

It would be extremely kind of you folks at The Cedar Key News if you could work up an article letting folks in Levy County know Capt. Dan's predicament and how they can help out. I'm sure some of the people who have read and enjoyed Capt. Dan's fishing stories might be interested in offering a little help in this time of need. Any contributions would be greatly appreciated and can be made to The Capt. Dan Shannon Fund and sent to:

Thanks for anything you can do to help Capt. Dan.
