A Recent Visit to Cedar Key......Jogging My Memory

Editor:
Recently my family and I visited Cedar Key and spent the day having lunch and seeing the sights around your lovely town. My husband and I were in Florida visiting my parents who live near St. Augustine. It was my parent`s 60th wedding anniversary so as part of our non-stop celebrating, the four of us decided we would take a leisurely drive to Cedar Key.

I suddenly realized that I had not had the pleasure of visiting Cedar Key since 1978 which would be over 28 years ago! Where had the time gone?

Memories came flooding back as I walked with my husband and parents down the Main Street and browsed around the interesting shops. We drove past the airport where some 28 years ago my friend, Bob Sturdevant, piloted a group of us down from Nashville, Tennessee and landed at Cedar Key airport in Bob`s small plane. We were all there to celebrate and bring in the New Year.

As I sat with my parents and husband having lunch overlooking the water, I could still remember like yesterday the delicious fresh fish and vivid, colorful sunsets I had enjoyed with my Nashville friends so long ago.

However, the most unique memory was one I had almost forgotten...I use to run what I would now consider an impressive 8 miles every day. During my visit those many, many years ago, I recalled meeting another runner who joined me every day and became my Cedar Key running pal.

He said he had lived in Cedar Key all his life but unfortunately, I cannot recall his name. I do remember how much fun it was to have such an inspiring and nice running buddy who also acted as a personal tour guide for me as we hoofed and huffed through the streets. You certainly can see a lot of places when you run 8 miles!

I do not plan to let 28 years go by before I come back to visit Cedar Key but congratulations on keeping the island as beautiful and special as it was when I visited way too long ago!
