Letters to the Editor

Editor:

I was a resident of Cedar Key for almost twenty years and, at one point, very involved in civic issues. I am not a fan of the FBI, but I hope that the indictments of Yearty, Parker and others will send a wake-up call to those in power who have ridden rough-shod over most people for many years. I remember so many times at Levy County Commission Meetings the disgust I felt when, after an issue was discussed publicly, the Commissioners "retired" and then came out a few minutes later to vote. Did anyone think that they didn`t discuss the issue privately and how they would vote? The few people who tried to stop this
practice got nowhere. For friends and family of Sammy Yearty, I am sorry that this had to happen but if he is found guilty, I can only say that he brought it on himself. You can blame a lot of people, if you need to, but that is the truth.

I remember vividly when, during a Cedar Key City Commission meeting some years ago, one of the Commissioners said, "I didn`t break the Sunshine Law but Mr. __ (another commissioner) and I talked about this before the meeting ..."
Check the tape. It really happened.

Regards,

Harriet Smith
