Letters to the Editor

Hello Editor, Cedar Key Friends and Neighbors --

I would like to appeal to our community to PLEASE contribute what you can to our City of Cedar Key Fireworks Fund.

Yes some folks have contributed but we really need more funds $$$ to meet our goal to ensure a BANG UP show!
Please drop off your checks or cash as soon as possible to City Hall by Friday 3PM or sooner.

ALSO -- I am asking for you to please contact me via email or phone about a very important decision.

Our fireworks site for last year was very well received by everyone in our community as a great location. All of the adjacent property owners liked having the fireworks there too. ( Near Piney Pt./Airport Rd to shoot over the water to Whitman PT/Goose Cove area)

The City has permission from the property owner for us to use this site again this year but we must take out a $1500 insurance policy since we are on private property.

A suggestion has been made to move the fireworks site to Cemetery Point Park off Gulf Blvd by the City Cemetery. This would save the $1500 insurance premium since the fireworks would be launched from the City Cemetery park.

I am concerned the suggested alternate location is not appropriate at a cemetery, in the middle of a residential neighborhood, and the congestion/traffic it will promote on SR24, Whiddon, Gulf Blvd, Hodges and other streets. I believe between the funds raised and the City budget we can pay the $1500 needed.

But I am asking our community for your opinions and feedback. Which location do you prefer? Piney Point waterside or the Cemetery?

The City Commission is to decide the fireworks site on June 1st at the City Commission meeting.

Please attend the City Commission meeting June 1st if you can or contact me via email or a call at 352-359-9839.

Thank you and please forward this email to your neighbors and friends in Cedar Key.

City of Cedar Key
Commissioner - Seat 2
