Letter FROM the Editor

Letter FROM the Editor

Editor

The editorials in Cedar Key News, from the start of my tenure as the Managing Editor from 2002 to the present, have required the approval by the CKN Board of Directors. This letter is my personal statement.

First, let me say thanks to the many people who have supported Cedar Key News as members, board members, advertisers and community organizations. Thanks also to the dozens of writers, contributors of photos and letters to the editor over the past nine years.

Second, along with co-founders Rod McGalliard and Robin McClary, I believed that Cedar Key needed an independent and timely source of local news. We began as an online newspaper and soon evolved into a biweekly print newspaper. We have offered an open exchange of opinion, and, as our masthead so grandly states, provide "News of the people, by the people, for the people."

After nine years as Managing Editor of Cedar Key News I am more certain than ever that we need an independent, local and accountable newspaper.

As of May 31 I am retiring as Managing Editor of Cedar Key News. I will remain on the Board of Directors, and I am confident the Board will find a new Managing Editor. My career as a journalist has been longer and more rewarding than I had anticipated in 2002. It has made me enjoy my role as a citizen of Cedar Key, and made me keenly aware of what makes Cedar Key truly unique.
