Fleeing, but Not Eluding

Fleeing, but Not Eluding

Jim Hoy

A forty-five year old Trenton man accumulated four traffic citations and a felony charge while trying to avoid a ticket for running a stop sign Sunday, July 3. Royce Ernest Chesser, according to a police report, ran a stop sign while riding a motorcycle and initially eluded the police.

Chesser was spotted turning off Seventh Street and riding north on on State Highway 24. Police pursued Chesser, who sped up to 80 miles per hour in a thirty-five mile per hour zone. After a chase of about nine miles, Chesser turned onto County Road 345 where he was boxed in by two police cars and taken into custody. He was charged with running a stop sign, two counts of speeding, driving without a motorcycle endorsement and fleeing and eluding. The latter charge is a felony.
