Dock Fire at Natures Landing

Dock Fire at Natures Landing

Jim Hoy

Fire destroyed part of a dock at Natures Landing Condominiums the morning of November 15. A quick thinking Natures Landing employee put out the fire. According to Cedar Key Police Chief Bubba Castell, arson is suspected.

Dock damaged by suspicious fire.

Shortly after 9:00 AM, Tuesday, J. D. McCormick who manages the property, was alerted to the blaze and responded with a fire extinguisher and became a one man bucket brigade to finish off the flames. It appears that clam and oyster bags soaked with a flammable substance had been spread along the dock which is at the east end of the Natures Landing property and near a busy channel. Parallel to the dock are the trestle pilings of the railroad that once served Cedar Key. Officer Mary Blankenship initiated investigation of the fire. Evidence found on the dock will be turned over to state arson investigators.
