April Arts Show Rich in Awards

April Arts Show Rich in Awards

Jim Hoy

Under the banner of "Old Florida Celebration of the Arts," and under the sponsorship of the Cedar Key Chamber of Commerce, on April 8 and 9, 2006, Cedar Key's fine arts show takes on a new life. More than 120 applicants have been accepted and will be notified shortly after December 15. The show will include work in five categories, i.e., Painting, Three Dimentional, Fiber Art, Photography and Jewelry.

Cash prizes of $10,000 will be awarded outright. Furthermore, purchase awards of more than $7,000 will send home generous show visitors with their choices of the art array. The abundance of prizes and awards will draw much fine art and create an opportunity for people to meet the artists.

Purchase awards valued at $1,000 each have been guaranteed by local businesses including Capitol City Bank, Cedar Key Historic Renovation LLC, Cypress Station, Drummond Community Bank, Nature Coast Realty, Pelican Realty and Ronnie Taylor Construction.

Dottie Grix, Chair of the Purchase Awards Committee welcomes additional award sponsors. Sponsors will choose a piece early in the show and reserve it with a ribbon that acknowledges them. The piece may be left on display or claimed immediately. Arrangement to become a sponsor can be made by calling Ms.Grix at 352-543 6323 or by mail at P.O. Box 850, Cedar Key, FL 32625.
