Flu Shots by Appointment | Flu Shots by AppointmentJim Hoy Fifty lucky high-risk people received flu shots administered by Levy County Health Department nurses October 20 at City Hall in Cedar Key. Despite newspaper reports that flu vaccines would not be in short supply in 2006, limited supplies of vaccine have been sent to Levy County. Those people that had made appointments for a flu shot in Cedar Key were given first priority. A Levy County Health Department nurse prepares to enroll an unidentified woman and Cedar Key resident Jack Betts in the flu shot program.

Although the vaccine supply was short, the organization of the operation was very efficient. The recordkeeping, financial transactions and vaccine administration had been completed in less than half the three hours planned for the local program. Liz Powers, who directs the flu shot program told Cedar Key News that she expects another shipment of vaccine between October 22 and 27. Meanwhile, people may make appointments to receive a shot by calling the Levy County Health Department at 486-5300. Depending on the number of doses received next week, there may be shots available in Cedar Key. |
