For Sale Sign Overkill

For Sale Sign Overkill

Jim Hoy

Mushrooming for sale signs appear to proclaim a buyer's market. With seven of twenty-two houses in one neighborhood offered for sale, the competition has been taken to a new level by one seller.

These signs led to clarification of Cedar Key code requirements.

A series of five yellow and black signs appeared August 4 in front of a house that has been on the market for several months. However, according to Teresa George, Cedar Key Code Inspector, a Cedar Key City ordinance allows only one sign on display. Those in violation of the ordinance may be given notice, and a hearing, and may be liable for fines of $500 per day under state law. A representative of the property owner told Ms. George that he was unaware of the ordinance and that he would remove all but one sign.
