Demolition began Wednesday at the site of the Cedar Key United Methodist Church on S.R. 24. The building which once housed the Cedar Key Laundromat, Salty`s Plaza, and, most recently, church classrooms, will make way for a new addition to the church.

Church member Bill Campbell, left, and Pastor Clark Reichert observe the demolition. After the building is demolished, a new foundation will be put in place before the middle of January 2008.

This elevation shows the proposed addition to the church following the final phase of construction. The Nomads, a group of Methodists who are retired tradespeople, will arrive in Cedar Key in January to begin the construction process. The Nomads group built another addition to the church several years ago and are looking forward to returning to Cedar Key.

Rev. Reichert said the rooms on the far left of the drawing may have to wait for additional funding to be completed, but most of the classrooms, offices and music rooms will be completed in the next phase.
