George Carter Armstrong

Obituary

George Carter Armstrong died Tuesday, June 20 at the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center after an extended illness. He was 70 years old.

Mr. Armstrong was born in Salem, MA and grew up in Danvers, MA. He served in the U.S. Navy. He moved to Cedar Key in 1996 after retiring from Honeywell, Inc., in Clearwater, where he resided from 1970 to 1996 and worked as an electronics engineer.

Mr. Armstrong was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, where he had served as Junior Warden. He was a member of the Florida Nature Coast Conservancy and the Cedar Key Arts Center, serving both groups as a director on their respective boards of directors. He participated in the Cedar Key Boatbuilders, and his hobbies included fishing, boating and gardening.

Mr. Armstrong is survived by his wife, Carol, of Cedar Key; a daughter, Leanne Bastow, St. Petersburg; sons Steve M. Armstrong, St. Petersburg and Paul M. Armstrong, Seattle, WA; brothers Paul M. Armstrong, Satellite Beach and James Armstrong, El Paso, TX; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, David Mark Armstrong and his parents, Frances and Raymond Armstrong.

Services for Mr. Armstrong will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 24 at Christ Episcopal Church in Cedar Key, with interment of the ashes in the Memorial Garden to follow. Family and friends will be greeted in the parish hall following the services.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services of Chiefland, Jewett A. Leaptrot, Funeral Director.
