Van Proctor

Obituary

By Wayne Watson, a friend

Van Proctor, a twenty year resident of Cedar Key, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008. He watched his Gators win the SEC Championship and then peacefully passed away. Mister Van was a columnist, "Naked on the Streets," for the Cedar Key Beacon in years past. He was never short on opinions or entertaining tales.

Mister Van gathered hugs from the expecting, and the unsuspecting women in Cedar Key for years. It will be many years before another man will come close to his totals; after all, how huggable are most men?

Van Proctor was a teacher and manager for Arthur Murray Dance Studios. He was cutting 'the rug,' until just last year, when he finally ran out of stamina. He was a veteran who served with honor and pride. His last job was with the now closed Frame Shop, on Hwy. 24 in Cedar Key.

Mister Van will be missed by his many local friends; he was "a card" that won't be soon replaced. His ashes will be scattered on the last island West of Cedar Key, known by locals as "The End of the Earth." The Island only appears at low tide and enjoys some remarkable sunsets. Van is survived by his son, Mike and his daughter, Lisa.

The family may be contacted c/o Mike Proctor, 816 Jeremy Drive, Davenport FL 33837.
