Obituary

Richard L. "Dick" Lattimer of Cedar Key, FL passed away Sept. 6, 2011. He is survived by his wife, Alice, and three children, Michael Lattimer (Lora) of Gainesville, FL, Elizabeth Golnick (Chuck) of Grayling, MI, and Kevin Scott Lattimer (Afie) of Potomac, MD, five grand children, and two great grand children.

Born in South Bend, IN on December 6, 1935, Lattimer moved to Gainesville in 1979 with Bear Archery from Grayling, MI. For 23 years he was in charge of the Bear Archery advertising department. He was also the founder of the Fred Bear Sports Club, an international organization of hunters and fishermen, and was inducted into the Archery Hall of Fame in 1999.

In the 1970`s Lattimer served as Television Chairman of the International Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies, and also as Co-Chairman of their full Communications Committee in Washington, D.C. This is the organization of the state and federal professional wildlife and fisheries managers. He was also a member of the Hunting and Conservation Committee of the National Rifle Association, on their Bow Hunting Sub-committee, and on the NRA Public Affairs Committee. He was also on the Board of Directors of the United Conservation Alliance.

Lattimer`s charitable work included: St. Jude Children`s Research Hospital (Memphis, TN); Multiple Sclerosis Society (Northern Michigan Chapter); St. Francis House Soup Kitchen and Homeless Shelter (Gainesville, FL); and Chairman, Citizens Advisory Committee of Camp Shawono for Juvenile Delinquents (Grayling, MI).

Lattimer was the author of several books including "All We Did Was Fly To The Moon" and "Space Station Friendship", "Hunt With Fred Bear", "I Remember Papa Bear" and "The Jesus Digest". He also wrote poetry under the pseudonym of Joshua Carpenter, his interpretation of the real name of the itinerant preacher from Nazareth.

Lattimer was a 1957 graduate of Indiana University earning a degree in Marketing with a specialty in Advertising. While there he was the Governor of his dorm unit, Dodds House Gargoyles, President of the Advertising Club and Vice President of the Marketing Club.
