Celebrate Greenways

Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge

Celebrate Greenways & Trails Month at the Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge.

Join the FREE ranger-led trail walk, "People of the Estuary," at the ancient Shell Mound, just 5 miles from Cedar Key, off of county road 347. Just follow the signs.

We will meet at the Dennis Creek Trailhead parking area at 9 a.m. on Friday, October 26 for the easy .03 mile trail walk. Resources from the estuary, food and medicine plants, as well as cultural materials of the Archaic and Woodland Peoples will be discussed.

Afterward, we will walk the mostly-shaded Dennis Creek Loop Trail for a view of the tidal creek environment, the lovely aromatic vanilla plant (Carphephorous) and remains of the old pier of Dennis Creek. Several benches along the way provide serene resting points that make the mile loop an easy walk. Bring your camera for great photo opportunities.

For more information, call 493-0238, ext. 223.
