Kayak Cedar Keys Hosts Youth Groups

Kayak Cedar Keys Hosts Youth Groups

From the “deck” of Kayak Tom Liebert

Kayak Cedar Keys, along with our community, was pleased to host three youth groups during the week of June 24. These youths took advantage of the opportunity to explore the pristine waters of the Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuge. The largest of these groups were from the Oak Hall School located in Gainesville, Florida and consisted of 23 enthusiastic and very well behaved paddlers. This group was led by Scott McDaniel, Athletic Director of Oak Hall School and Jed Lynch of Kayak Cedar Keys.

The North Florida Regional Chapter of the Boy Scouts of America also called upon Kayak Cedar Keys, as well as did students from the Blackbark Forest School based in Cornwall, NY. The students of Blackbark Forest were guests of the UF Marine Biology Department visiting the Cedar Keys Light Station on Seahorse Key. Noted historian and author of "Cedar Keys Light Station," Toni C. Collins was on hand at Atsena Otie Key to offer a history and tour of the cemetery to the students from Blackbark Forest School of NYC.

Sherry Liebert of Kayak Cedar Keys noted 44 young people in all, had a memorable time paddling in the Cedar Keys.
