Top Five Fantastic FCAT Tips
Taryn Epperso, Shark Correspondent

FCAT, the test that starts in third grade, and is taken until a student`s sophomore year of high
school, determine what classes you take by the score you get. Having taken FCAT for six years, I`ve accumulated a set of tips that can prepare you for the big test!

5. Keep Calm. Stressing out can not only wear you out, but make you nervous, two things not good for test taking. FCAT is important, and keeping calm can help you in the long run, always keep calm and keep a level head when taking the test.

4. Read Carefully and read the Directions. The misconception of the meaning of a question or passage could cost you a right answer. Be sure to read slowly, and carefully, underling in the passage, and using your context clues. Blindly answering a question could be dangerous. Always read the questions and answer to your best ability.

3. Take your Time. Taking your time is vital when taking FCAT, they give you the amount of time they do for a reason... use it! Use it to re-read, to go back and check your work, and work out computations.

2. A Good Night`s Sleep. Going to sleep early and catching plenty of "Z`s" can keep you alert when testing, during FCAT you`re at your desk for extended periods of time, being fully rested can keep you from falling asleep during the test.

1. Eat a Healthy and Filling Breakfast. Being hungry during FCAT can distract you, and distractions are NOT good. A good breakfast is vital. Eat filling foods, but too many sugary foods can be bad, too much energy can distract you, fruits, protein, and fiber can keep you alert and focused while taking FCAT.

Cedar Key School Helps out with Roadside Clean-up
Sarah Bartholemy, Shark Correspondent

This year Cedar Key School took on the duty of roadside clean-up.
Throughout the year, SGA, Jr. Beta, and now SWAT shared the job of hosting the clean-up. Jr. Beta member, Taryn Epperson said "The key to getting to the job done with Roadside Clean-up, is a positive attitude and a lot of people. If you don`t have these two things the job will never get done. It`s also great to help the community." This Wednesday at 12:00 P.M. the SWAT club will be venturing out to pick up trash along the roads of the island.
This is Cedar Key`s first year SWAT club; SWAT stands for Students Working Against Tobacco. The SWAT club aims to making the world a tobacco free one. Doing volunteer work is one of the steps to making this possible.
