FIREWORKS FUND SETS JUNE 1 DEADLINE

by CKN Staff Reporter

Fire Department Chief Robert Robinson has announced a June 1 deadline to raise $10,000 - $12,000 from Cedar Key residents and businesses for a city-sponsored fireworks display celebrating the 4th of July.

Dubbed the "City Wide Fireworks Show," the 2013 effort will be a collaboration among Cedar Key Volunteer Fire & Rescue, the Cedar Key Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Cedar Key. The group hopes to restore the city-wide celebration that was stricken from the city budget in 2012.

The $10,000 - $12,000 goal represents the city`s cost of fireworks in prior years. Contributions in any amount may be made by check payable to either the City of Cedar Key (P.O.B. 339) or to the Cedar Key Chamber of Commerce (P.O.B. 610) and identified as supporting the "Fireworks Fund."

All funds contributed to the Fireworks Fund will go to the purchase of fireworks. As always, members of the Cedar Key Fire Department will prepare and present the fireworks display.

"The Fourth of July celebrates our National`s birthday, and it should be done in a big way," said the Fireworks Fund coalition. "This event is beneficial to everyone in our community, residents and businesses alike."
