Plein-Air Exhibit Opens

Maureen Landress

Over the past week artists from the area have been roaming about our quaint city, painting it's resplendent scenes. Those works are now on exhibit at the Cedar Key Arts Center Gallery (above the Keyhole on 2nd Street) through the month of October. The exhibit theme is "Plein-Air", which translated from French means "outdoors". The term was applied to the work of early Impressionists, who took the art world by storm when they began to paint outdoors, incorporating natural light into their paintings.

The exhibit offers incredible examples of the use of natural light, and outdoor settings as subject matter.

"Rooftops, Oldest House" by Barbara Perrotti

"Marsh on Hwy 24" by Susan Dauphinee

"Bayou and Church" by Bill Roberts

"Above the Jiffy Store" by Jeff Knee

Take a moment during the month to visit the gallery, and refresh your spirits by viewing these truly lovely paintings.
