First Annual Open House at the Gernhardt Studio

First Annual Open House at the Gernhardt Studio

Maureen Landress

After months of intensive labor, local potter Henry Gernhardt had completed enough of his new pottery studio to hold his first open house on December 15th.

Located just off County Road 347, on S.W. 77th Place, the new studio sits nestled among towering pines and edged with reflective ponds. The building houses areas for mixing glazes and clays, work rooms for sculpting and turning the clay, a drying room and a large kiln.

The open house afforded visitors a chance to not only see the new studio, but to view some of Henry's magnificent works of art as well. There was also a slide presentation showing Henry's work, and the changes it has undergone over the ensuing years. In addition, there was a portfolio of posters and photographs of past shows and exhibits available for viewing.

Many local artists and friends dropped by to welcome Henry and tour the studio, so the conversations were lively and time passed in the blink of an eye.

If you missed the chance to attend this first open house don't worry, Henry plans on having many more in the years ahead.
