Next "Movie in the Park" Slated for June 20

ANNOUNCEMENT

On Saturday June 20th at 8:15 p.m., the second in a series of Movies in the Park will be shown. Because of copyright laws the film title can not be announced, but the next film is a story about a girl named Nim`s and the island that she inhabits.

Movies in the Park began in June with over 100 people bringing their blankets or lawn chairs to City Park. These events are presented by the City of Cedar Key and the Movies in the Park Committee. The equipment for the outdoor showing was purchased privately by Commissioner Scott Dennison. The Movies in the Park Committee is composed of Andrea Dennison, Vanessa Edmunds, and Grace Register. Refreshments consisting of popcorn, candy, lemonade and sodas are available to be purchased and go to benefit a local charity or non- profit.

Because copyright laws prohibit films from being shown publicly without acquiring a public viewing license, this event is currently funded by business and individual sponsorships. On average the cost for a license is $150 for movies already released to DVD or $200 for movies not yet released to DVD. The committee has so far gotten the commitment of enough sponsors to show a movie usually on each 3rd Saturday through next February. Sponsorships are $150 and the sponsor receives 3 pages of advertisement in the movies pre-show. The Committee is looking for more sponsors so if you are interested in sponsoring a Movie in the Park please contact Andrea Dennison at 543-6313...

An exception to the showings on the 3rd Saturday is: Labor Day weekend when a "Pirates, Princess and Fairies Party" will be held before the showing of a movie, and the first weekend of December with a Christmas feature being shown kicking off Cedar Key`s celebration of the holidays.

Copyright laws do allow the Committee to tell individuals the title of the film prior to the movie being shown. If you would like to receive information about the dates and titles of the movies sent to you, please send an email to: moviesinthepark@live.com. You will receive all emails personally so that your email will be protected.

For information please contact: Andrea Dennison at 543-6313 or moviesinthepark@live.com
