Visiting Artist Teaches at Art Center

Jim Hoy

Tuesday the Cedar Key Art Center offered local artists the special opportunity to learn watercolor techniques under the guidance of Guy Corriero, who visits our town regularly, from Ilion, New York. Corriero taught art at Herkimer County Community College for twenty-seven years prior to his retirement eleven years ago. He and his wife first came to Cedar Key upon the recommendation of a waitress on Monhegan Island, Maine. They have returned many times.

Mr. Corriero demonstrated his skill by doing a watercolor in the morning. He then observed and gave advice throughout the afternoon as seven local artists worked on pieces ranging from seascapes to floral studies.

Many of Mr. Corriero`s paintings of Cedar Key scenes can be seen, and purchased, at the Natural Experience Gallery on Second Street. He also has his work available in the Wisscaset Bay Gallery in Maine and the Concetta "D" Gallery in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
