Hurricane and Hazardous Waste Day Wednesday

ANNOUNCEMENT

Cedar Key`s annual Drive-In Hurricane Day and Household Hazardous Waste Day will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, May 25 on 1st Street right in front of the Fire Station.

FREE LEMONADE AND HOT DOGS WILL BE AVAILABLE WHILE THEY LAST!

Hurricane awareness and preparation information will be available from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Included will be information from the Cedar Key Emergency Management Department, the Cedar Key Fire/Rescue Department and the Cedar Key Police Department.

County- and Statewide services represented include:
Levy County Emergency Management
Nature Coast Transport
Levy County Health Department
Red Cross
Levy County Animal Control
Levy County Paramedics
UF/IFAS Florida Sea Grant

Participants will learn what to do before a storm:
Supplies to keep on hand
Home safety
ID addresses and property
Pet care

....and what to do after a storm:
communications
re-entry
debris clean-up
return to full service

The latest EOC equipment acquired by Cedar Key will be on display.

Free lemonade and hot dogs will be available WHILE THEY LAST!

The Household Hazardous Waste Day will take place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Marina Parking Lot directly across the street from the Fire Station. The City of Cedar Key and Clean Harbors manage this event.

What to bring:
Unneeded household hazardous waste in containers (use original containers when possible).
Oil Based Paints
Stains, thinners and strippers
Solvents and varnishes
Adhesives, glues, resins
Waste fuels (kerosene, gasoline)
Engine degreaser, brake fluid
Transmission fluid
Poisons, insecticides, weed killers
Wood preservatives
Hobby supplies, artist supplies
Photo chemicals, chemistry sets
Cleaners, spot removers
Swimming pool chemicals
Dry cell batteries
Aerosol cans
Pesticides
Nicad batteries
Hearing aid (button) batteries
Used motor oil
Propane tanks
Tires
Electronics

What NOT to bring:

Asbestos
Smoke detectors
Compressed gas cylinders
Ammunition, fireworks, explosives
Commercial or industrial waste
Infectious and biological waste
Radioactive waste
Fire extinguishers

*Please Note: Prescription drugs WILL be accepted, under a special program facilitated by the city.

PLEASE:
Tighten caps and lids leaving materials in original labeled containers.
Pack containers in sturdy upright boxes and pad with newspaper.
Sort and pack separately: paint, pesticides, household cleaners.
NEVER MIX CHEMICALS!
Pack your vehicle and go directly to the site.
NEVER SMOKE while handling hazardous materials.
DO NOT PLACE WASTE IN A GARBAGE BAG.
