07 January 1868 - Joseph Finnegan, Administrator of the Estate of Bernard M. Byrne petitioned the Court to sell the lands belonging to the estate to pay the debts and expenses of Administration. The sale was conducted in front of the
Courthouse in Fendandina. Daniel Callahan was the highest bidder of the lands situated in Levy County and purchased 6,023 acres of land for $2,267.82. 98 years ago
1906 - The Bonita Club, a hunting and fishing club located on the outskirts of Yankeetown, was formed by Edward Holder, a prominent Ocala citizen. Holder owned extensive phosphate mines in Dunnellon and also was a part owner of the Port Inglis loading docks at the mouth of the Withlachoochee River. The Club consisted of a tract of land near Port Inglis of about 180 acres of marshland
and eight islands extending toward the Gulf. Holder invited a few friends to enjoy the camp with him and the group formed the Bonita Hunting and Fishing Club. 51 years ago
07 January 1953 - The Pension Department of the State of Florida, Tallahassee, forwarded a list of Confederate Pensioners for Levy County for approval. The List of Pensioners were: Mrs. Evvie Maxwell, widow of George W. Maxwell, Otter Creek; Mrs. Annie Hoppings, widow of John P. Hoppings, Williston; and Mrs. Dora Meeks, widow of Lawson C. Meeks, Otter Creek. The Clerk was instructed to notify the State Pension department that the names were approved as received.
