Thursday, August 23, 2001 142 years Ago 09 June 1860 - The 1860 Federal Census of Levy County residents showed the
following inhabitants of Seahorse Key: S.R. Mollay, aged 42, the Light House
Keeper, born in South Carolina; Caroline Mollay, aged 24, born in Florida;
Angus L. Mollay, aged 3; and Duncan Mollay, aged 1, both born in Florida.
Living in the same household was Amanda Jones, aged 30, born in South
Carolina; and A.J. Forrester, aged 56, a Light House Keeper, also born in
South Carolina. 114 years ago 31 December 1887 - The Town of Otter Creek boasted a population of 25. The
settlement was a station on a line of the Florida Railway and Navigation
Company`s railroad (Central Division) and had an express and telegraph
office. Oranges, vegetables and game were the principal shipments. There
were four general merchandise stores in the town: R.M. Ellzey, John E.
Robinson, J.S. Turner, and T.J. Yearty & Company. The Justice of the Peace
was J.A. Mason and the physician was J.C. Howard. 76 years ago 01 December 1925 - An Act creating the Municipality of Yankeetown, Florida
was enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida. Appointed to serve
until the next general election were: Armanis F. Knotts, Mayor; Edith
McGrath, Eugene Knotts, and William Gillette, Councilmen; Fred Rubo, Town
Clerk; and Charles Pruitt, Town Treasurer. >From the official records of Levy County
