Recent "Conservation" letters/column`s to the Cedar Key News

Charlie Greene

To The Editor,

Recent letters/column`s to the Cedar Key News continue to reflect one side of energy conservation and recycling, some of it baseless and other`s with merit. i.e., the U.S. is not a signatory to the Kyoto treaty, and yes, there is such a thing as clean coal.......Acid rain no longer plagues the North Eastern part of our country as recently depicted in one of the conservation column`s - this was effected by cleaning up the smoke stacks in the mid west (with scrubbers) and the technology of clean coal.

On a more personal note, we recycle all that we can and compost all of our kitchen scraps - it just makes good sense to do this. I have no idea of the cost of energy that we use to recycle glass, aluminum, cardboard etc. but I do know that New York City had to stop it for awhile as it was using more energy than it was saving......

Back in the late 60`s it was not only fun but very educational riding from Kingston New York around New York City and out Long Island Sound on the Sloop "Clear Water" or it`s sister ship, the "Arlo Guthry"......This was the annual pumpkin run started by Pete Seeger and the "Clear Water Sloop Inc.".. Basically, what we did was to pick up pumpkins in distribute them along the way while promoting environmental conservation and the concept to clean water - a good thing.......I only say this to let you know that I am not new to the conservation effort and have looked at both sides of the fence. They both have political agenda`s, your choice on how you wish to live and leave this world.......
