After tabling nine items on their agenda the Cedar Key Commission addressed items regarding the big dock, resolution of a long-standing zoning issue and a start on finding better fire protection for all island residents. Joseph Hatin offered to buy the big dock and work with the City to implement its use. In response to a letter from Pat Hibbits` attorney, the Commission voted to answer with a clear offer to settle the dispute. Commissioner Vanessa Edmunds, acting as liaison among the Levy County Commission, the Cedar Key Water and Sewer Special District and the City Commission, announced plans for a joint workshop to improve fire protection. Joseph Hatin addressed the Commission after research on ways to purchase and finance purchase of various Levy County properties from the County. He offered to become the buyer and to work with the City in a leasing agreement at low interest rates. Mayor/Commissioner Paul Oliver responded, saying that the offer is a generous one, and that a future agenda item will open full discussion of Hatin`s plan. A shed owned by Pat Hibbits on his Gulf Boulevard property that became the focus a zoning disput continues to exist. To resolve the matter, the Commission voted to drop a lein against the property for unpaid fines provided that Hibbits removes the shed and pays the City for all legal expenses incurred by the City relative to the dispute. Commissioner Heath Davis made the motion, seconded by Commissioner Sue Colson. Commissioner Ken Daniel observed that the dispute started before he became a commissioner. The motion carried, with Commissioner Daniel the lone opponent. Concerns of both City and unincorporated area residents of our island about an adequate supply of water to fight fires have generated a joint workshop by the Levy County Commission, the Cedar Key Water and Sewer Special District Board and the City Commission. Commissioner Edmunds is aranging the meeting date. The Commission voted unanimously to delete prohibition of parking on the wrong side of the street from the Cedar Key parking ordinance. However, Florida State law prohibits such parking andd according to a brief discussion takes precedent over local ordinances. |
