Child Welfare Case Leads to Drug Arrests

Child Welfare Case Leads to Drug Arrests

Jim Hoy

Two people were arrested by Cedar Key police June 16 when the police were called in by state children's welfare investigators who found incriminating evidence. The police found drug paraphernalia and a controlled substance in addition to the evidence found by the welfare investigators.

According to a police report, Jennifer Marie Kay/Castor, 28, of 674 Fifth Street, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Ronald Leonard Kay III, 23, of the same address was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance. The latter charge is a felony. Mr. Kay said that the pills were for his weak stomach and that they had been given to him by a relative whose name he could not remember. The arrests came after state investigators found an infant and two small children in a house with poor sanitation and prescription drugs and alcoholic beverages available to the children.
