Highway 24 Resurfacing Scheduled

Highway 24 Resurfacing Scheduled

Work will begin Monday, August 1, on resurfacing of State Highway 24 from Bronson to the Alachua County line. There may be some daytime lane closures, but no significant traffic impacts are expected. Motorists are asked to be cautious, however, as trucks will be entering and exiting the roadway, and workers will be present.

For the duration of this project, which is expected to take approximately four months to complete, there will be no lane closures from 6-8:30 a.m. eastbound and from 4-6 p.m. westbound to accommodate residents traveling to and from school or work. Flaggers will direct traffic through the closures.

The project is being constructed by V.E. Whitehurst and Sons, Inc., of Williston at a cost of $3.5 million. Construction will consist of repaving the roadway, adding five-foot paved shoulders and making drainage structures safer.
