Cedar Key Police have arrested a local woman for exploiting an elderly person after a store owner reported cashing questionable checks, according to a police spokesman.

Nora S. Cooper, 23, of Cedar Key, allegedly forged the signature of J. Q. Hodges on checks totaling $890. The police say that they expect more forged checks to be found and additional charges to be filed. Ms. Cooper was arrested and taken to the Levy County Jail on August 18.

In other police matters, two recent and possibly related burglaries are under investigation. An arrest warrant has been issued for one of the cases. Furthermore, following a traffic stop for speeding on State Highway 24, Henry C. Harrison, 46, of Cedar Key failed roadside sobriety tests. He was charged with driving under the influence and taken to the Levy Count Jail where he subsequently failed alcohol breath tests.
