Fine Arts Show Rebirth

Fine Arts Show Rebirth

Jim Hoy

More than 145 artists have been accepted to show their work and compete for prizes in Cedar Key April 8 and 9. The show is entitled "Old Florida Celebration of the Arts in Cedar Key." Only top quality artists have been invited to participate by a jury that evaluated photographs of each applicant's work.

Thirteen Cedar Key artists will be joined by colleagues from as far away as California. This year's show offers over $18,000 in prizes and purchase awards. Many local businesses have made purchase awards in addition to the cash prizes totaling $10,000 that come out of application and booth fees. Artists will be judged on the basis of the art displayed in their booth rather than on a single piece of work. The April 8 and 9 show is sponsored by the Cedar Key Area Chamber of Commerce, and is produced by an ad hoc committee of local artists.

The exhibitors at the show will be honored at a reception hosted by the Cedar Key Arts Center members according to Carol Pattillo, a member of the ad hoc artists committee. Pattillo, who coordinated much of the show preparations, said that she foresees Celebration of the Arts in Cedar Key becoming a major national fine arts show.
