Incumbent Colson Rolls over Challenger

Commissioner Sue Colson greeting voters on Election Day.

Cedar Key Commissioner Sue Colson was elected to her third term on the City Commission May 8. Colson defeated challenger Brian Hussan 130 votes to 59. A light voter turnout resulted in only 211 ballots cast. Twenty-two absentee ballots will be counted, but that number is insufficient to change the results of the election.

Immediately after hearing the election results, Colson said that her first priority is to complete projects that are already under way. When asked how she felt about Commissioner-elect Gene Hodges, she replied that he is a gentleman and very knowledgeable. She added that she had worked with him on water quality issues when he was the representative for her district in Tallahassee.
