Local Artist Wins Best in Show

Staff Writer

Cedar Key Artist Pat Goodrich brought home the Best in Show ribbon from the Arts and Crafts Festival for District 5 Greater Florida Woman`s Club, held in Gainesville February 5th. The annual show features work by Woman`s Clubs from Trenton thro` Gainesville to Ocala to Crystal River to Cedar Key.

Well-known for her talent in Cedar Key, Goodrich`s water color painting entitled "My Pond" not only placed first in category, but was also the judges` choice for Best in Show among 46 other Arts entries.

The Cedar Key Woman`s Club had 16 of the total 200 entries for the Show, and brought home 10 ribbons, a tribute to the talent of our Island`s women. Sue Casey achieved three of these ribbons for her entries in jewelry, photography, and a lovely angel- fashioned from an old hymnary! Ribbons also returned to Cedar Key for Millie Bayha`s holiday light, Mary Coleman`s basket and quilt, Mary Lou Ledoux` embroidery, Eileen Senecal`s wall-hanging, and Ingeborg Worth`s ceramic Magnolia.

All Festival entries must be from the past year`s work, and the unusual number of quilts and crochet work might be a comment on our recent weather! Pat Baldwin, Mary Coleman, and Eileen Senecal all entered beautiful hand-pieced quilts, and Marianna Siegfried a cozy hand-crocheted afghan.

The Cedar Key Woman`s Club was founded in 1960 and has been involved in many local projects, as well as being affiliated with the Florida Woman`s Club Federation. CKWC President Jerry Walling reports that blue ribbon winners from this Festival go on to the State level later in the spring.
