CITY COMMISSION MEETS 4-17-12

Mandy Offerle

The Cedar Key City Commission met last evening, April 17, 2012, at 6PM, at City Hall. A public commenter invited the audience and reminded the commission members to attend the Friday evening, April 20, 2012, 6PM, Forum at the Community Center, the purpose of which is: for sitting commissioners to respond to the public`s questions regarding the welfare of the city and its business; to understand the differences between the two candidates vying for the same seat, Dennison and Vanlandingham; and to question new commissioner Fiegan.

Minutes from the February 21 and March 20, 2012, City Commission meetings were approved. The annual Application for Revenue Sharing was approved.

Commissioner Dennison updated the commission on the cell tower status. The commission agreed that forwarding Attorney for the Cedar Key Water and Sewer District John McPherson`s letter to American Tower Corporation Senior Project Manager Eric Thuftedal was in order. McPherson`s letter is one in a series requesting updates as to whether the water tower site remains a viable option for the communications tower.

The First Reading of Ordinance Number 482, the city`s sign ordinance, was postponed until May 1, 2012, due to some confusion, explained Mayor Health Davis, over possibly different versions of the ordinance in the hands of the various commissioners. City Attorney Norm Fugate took the responsibility of identifying the final, correct version and forwarding it to each commissioner.

Mittaur employee and former City of Cedar Key administrator Greg Lang updated the commission on the outside boat ramp. He reported that the two-part Florida Fish and Wildlife Grant of $559,000 involves: a planning part which is now completed; a second part which involves construction. Lang stated that, given his experience with the Fish and Wildlife grant processors, his best judgment was that it would not be until fall when the actual construction stage would begin.

The meeting concluded in a reminder of the Marina Workshop at the Community Center, 809 Sixth Street, on Thursday, April 26, 2012, a 6PM. There the City Commission will take ideas and suggestions from the University of Florida students for marina improvements.
