CITY COMMISSIONERS APPROPRIATE DOLLARS FOR STORM WATER SYSTEM SURVEILLENCE

CITY COMMISSIONERS APPROPRIATE DOLLARS FOR STORM WATER SYSTEM SURVEILLENCE

Mandy Offerle

At the Cedar Key Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) regularly scheduled meeting, Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at 6PM, city commissioners discussed: the condition of the city`s storm water pipes, catch basins, and trench drains; the two bids from W.W. Engineering and Florida Pipe Tech; and possible future storm water system actions. Scott Dennison`s motion that no more than $14,000 be spent for a complete video surveillance package of the system`s entire 10,000 linear feet passed with two dissenting votes from Commissioners Feigan and Colson.

Funds, in the amount of approximately $83,000, are currently in the CRA budget and designated for projects such as this, storm water pipes and water quality maintenance. W.W. Engineering submitted a $58,000 bid; Florida Pipe Tech submitted $33,000 bid for light cleaning and a $54,000 bid for heavy cleaning.

Hodges advised spending little money and holding a larger balance for the future. Commissioner Colson and former Mayor Heath Davis, after explaining the history and operations of the city`s water management and maintenance for past years, advised full funding and completion of the project.

Nomination for a CRA chair and vice chair was necessary after the recent city commission election. Dale Register was unanimously elected chair; Hodges and Colson were nominated for vice chair; Sue Colson was elected. Minutes from April 3 2012, were minimally amended and approved; minutes from May 1, 2012, were approved.
