Arts & Crafts Festival Plan Emerges

Arts & Crafts Festival Plan Emerges

Jim Hoy

Nineteen Cedar Key residents have laid plans for the 2005 Arts & Crafts Festival. Key members of the Chamber of Commerce, the arts community and the Lions Club have formed an ad hoc committee that will organize, advertise and carry on what has been an annual event for the past 40 years.

The Chamber of Commerce, a non-profit organization, will provide an umbrella that will satisfy the legal requirement that street closure for an event must benefit the community as a whole according to Chamber of Commerce President Dan Holland. Kevin Hipe, an artist and gallery owner, suggested that many of the two hundred forty Cedar Key Arts Center members can contribute energy to make the April 16-17 event a success. Mrs. "Mac" McCain, the driving force behind the festival, volunteered to tutor the committee members regarding the events many details. As in past years, the Cedar Key Lions Club will organize the food booths in City Park. The ad hoc committee has invited all who are interested in helping to carry out the festival to attend weekly work sessions held at the Sunset Isle R-V Park, 6:30 PM every Thursday evening.

Notices of the festival will be mailed to prospective exhibitors in mid-January. The proceeds from booth rental will be earmarked for prizes and promotion of the 2006 festival. The 2006 festival will be a juried arts show offering significant cash prizes. For more information please contact Dan Holland via email at: info@cedarkey.org.
